Music Ministry
MAKE A JOYFUL NOISE UNTO THE LORD!
Our Music Ministers at St. John’s are those individuals or small ensembles whose primary purpose is to lead and support the assembly in prayer and music by inviting and engaging the assembly without dominating or diminishing their active participation. This group of individuals is committed to leading music at weekend and other special Masses, uniting the assembly through prayer and song and sharing in the Eucharistic celebration.
Volunteer Music Opportunities:
Cantors/Musicians
New cantors and musicians must actively participate in a larger group (Spirit Singers or 5:15 group) for at least one season prior to being considered for leadership at weekend liturgies.
Spirit Singers
Participants must be committed to practicing with the group on a regular basis on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. Spirit Singers consist of men and women, age 16 or older, who sing unison to 4-part choral/hymn song with instrumentation as available. The Spirit Singers are currently scheduled to sing the first (1st) and third (3rd) weekend of the month from late September through May, rotating at each Mass time. Complete schedule available.
5:15 Musicians
This group is open to anyone who sings or plays an instrument. Those involved must be committed to practicing with the group one (1) hour before Mass whenever scheduled to sing. The 5:15 Musicians are currently scheduled to sing the second (2nd) and fourth (4th) Saturday of the month from Sept. through May at the 5:15 p.m. Mass.
Choir for Christ
This choir is for youth in 2nd – 8th grades. This group generally practices a couple of times a month and sings at all Mass times on a rotating schedule. Complete schedule available. PLEASE JOIN US!!!
Funeral Choir
Sing, as requested, for funeral liturgies on weekdays and weekends.
Music Leaders for Assisted Living Facilities
Musicians interested in this new ministry would need to be available during the day and be capable of leading music with the residents with or without instrumental accompaniment. They would make the selections for music with guidance from the Director of Liturgy. Ideally, this will include a rotating schedule, year round.
