Event Coordinators

CELEBRATE THE SPECIAL EVENTS OF OUR PARISH

Do you enjoy coordinating the right combination of people and resources to complete a project? Are you organized yet flexible? Consider coordinating short-term projects. Volunteers and resources are provided. Staff can help mentor through these projects if requested.

 

Event Coordinator Opportunities:

 

Dinner of Remembrance

Organize dinner for families who have lost a loved one recently. Serve 25-30 people. Celebrated after 10:00am Mass the first Sunday in November. Volunteers and cook provided.

Children’s Christmas Pageant

Direct young children in a performance of the Nativity at the 4:00pm Children’s Mass on Christmas Eve. One time practice the week before. Costumes provided.

Vacation Bible School

Direct the week long summer activities held in the mornings at St. John’s for our children to learn about the bible and God’s love for them. Crew leaders, volunteers and supplies provided.

Receptions/Fundraisers

Occasional fundraisers for charity events. Coordinate dinner volunteers and silent auction set-up, etc. as needed.

RCIA Reception After Easter Vigil Mass

Plan and organize a reception with refreshments for RCIA candidates who have recently become new members of our Catholic Church. Volunteers provided.

Follies Director and Coordinator

Theater director to direct actors and musicians and a coordinator to coordinate all activities outside of theater and music. Volunteers provided.

Taste of St. John’s Festival Coordinator

Coordinate committee heads for all the different activities at the “Taste of St. John’s Festival”  in September. This festival kicks off the Faith Formation theme for the year. Volunteers provided.

Event Cooking Teams

Work as a team with other cooks in Matthews Hall kitchen and consider these possible events to cook for. Mentoring available.

Event Volunteer Cooking Opportunities:

 

Men’s Chicken Dinner—November

Annual event in November put on by the men of the parish. Proceeds fund various parish and youth activities.

Follies Dinner –February

Major fundraiser for the youth of our parish and their mission trips. Menu varies.

Dinner of Remembrance-November

Dinner for families who have lost a loved one within the past 3 years. Celebrated after the 10:00am Mass the first Sunday in November. Menu is your choice. Serve 25-30 people.

Spaghetti fundraising dinners or Pasta for the Padres

Cook the famous Colletti Spaghetti recipe provided. Always a favorite for fundraisers.

Event Work Crews

Enjoy the fellowship that comes with working with others on a meaningful and rewarding project. Training provided if necessary. Schedules flexible.

Event Volunteer Work Opportunities:

 

Event Servers

Serve food buffet style. Walk around refilling coffee.

Event Clean-Up

Clear tables of dishes after a parish dinner or event. Wash tables, put away clean dishes, etc.

Event Set-Up

Set up dishes, centerpieces, silverware and glasses on tables.

Event Bakers

Bake cookies or cakes for receptions and small events.

St. John’s Follies Dinner Theater

This is St. John’s big parish fundraiser for the youth. Put on an entertaining evening of music, fine food and fun. Besides musically talented people, we need actors, decorators, crews to set up tables, serve food, cook and clean up. Come join the fun.                                          

Follies Volunteer Opportunities:

Theater director to direct actors and musicians

Follies coordinator – coordinate all activities outside of theater and music.

Decorate Matthews Hall and tables around the theme of the show.

Set tables with dishes, napkins and flatware

Stage design and construction

Musicians to sing and play accompaniment

Storytellers (Performing Group)

Express your faith through storytelling, be it a drama or humor, this group will teach, entertain and provide fun for all involved. Have you always had that desire to entertain, but never the opportunity or nerve? Well here is your chance! This is a chance to get in on forming a new ministry. ALL AGES and ABILITIES WANTED.                      

Areas of Involvement: Directors, Performers, Set builders, Writers

NEW! Living Stations of the Cross

Re-enact the passion of Christ on Good Friday afternoon. Actors are needed to portray Jesus, His mother, Simon of Cyrene, the women of Jerusalem, Pontius Pilate and more. Walk from St. John the Baptist Church to Ss. Peter and Paul’s church.  

                                                         

Parish Service Day: Church Cleaning

Work with others as a group to thoroughly clean the church two times a year. Duties include mopping the floors, washing windows, vacuuming, wiping down pews, cleaning book holders in the pews, and cleaning the choir loft. Work on a Saturday in October and April for four hours. Lunch provided.

The Men of St. John’s

The Men of St. John’s invites all men to join. This organization provides an opportunity for men to support a variety of social and financial events of our parish. This includes the parish chicken dinner and the financial support of youth events.

Council of Catholic Woman

We endeavor to help provide for the spiritual, social and physical needs of the parish members and to participate in efforts to promote a Christian environment for all people. This is a good place to start to become more involved in your parish.

Piece Makers

Our sewing group shows love to the needy by providing quilts for comfort and warmth. While working together to spread the love of Christ, a great bond of friendship is formed with all who come. No matter what your sewing skills, there is something for everyone to do. We meet the first Tuesday of the month from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Matthews Hall.

Knights of Columbus

This is a Catholic family, service organization dedicated to serving the church, the communities in which members live. The Knights stand steadfast in support of the needs of others by supporting and fostering many programs in defense of all life. They assist persons with physical and mental handicaps, morally and financially support seminarians and postulants, and promote Christian family life.

Friday Donut Ministry

Enjoy fellowship after the 8:15 Friday morning Mass. Set up and serve coffee and rolls. Rolls are ordered and already delivered when you arrive; just set-up and make coffee. Serve on a rotating basis. Training provided.        

                             

Garden Ministry

If you’re an avid gardener or just interested in learning about gardening. Come help us design, plant, weed, water and praise the Lord with His own creation. Tend the flowers and plants that adorn our parish grounds. No regular meeting, work independently or with a partner. Times are flexible.

NEW! St. John’s Heritage Ministry

If you enjoy researching history to figure out how we got to where we are, consider organizing and collecting items of our parish history. Record important dates and events. Organize photos and other important data related to our parish heritage.

 

 

NEW! Video Record Homilies

Record the homily at 8:00 a.m. masses on video, on rotational basis (once every 1-2 months). This recording is transferred onto YouTube video and then linked to our website so those who are unable to make it to mass can still make the connection to the gospel teaching. Minimal training is necessary and provided. Equipment provided.

 

Communication/Media Ministry

Do you like to energize and brings things to life in words, pictures, design, writing or speaking? Help St. John’s communicate its mission and life to various age groups and through different media such as the web, video and Power Point presentations, witness talks, etc.

 

 

Volunteer Opportunities:

 

Graphic Designers

Use your creativity—choose from various projects: newsletter designs, Follies playbill, ministry booklet, posters, banners or other displays.

 

Speakers

Various  speaking opportunities available such as Stewardship witness speakers or Faith Formation presentations, topics vary, your choice.

 

Writers

Be creative - write scripts for Follies Dinner Theater, video presentations or articles for St. John’s website and newsletter.

 

Webpage designers

Design a new look for St. John’s website.

 

Photographers 

Photograph parish events for St. John’s web or print publications.

 

NEW! Create videos

Create a video clip and share with others your enthusiasm of participating in a ministry or mission trip or other Christian practice for view on St. John’s web or other church presentations. Also need tutorials or training videos for liturgical ministries, etc.

NEW! Publicity/Marketing

Give us your expertise on how to advertise various parish events and happenings such as the retreats, faith sharing groups or other parish ministries.
