Prayer

Prayer as God's gift

Prayer is the raising of one's mind and heart to God or requesting of good things from God.  But when we pray, do we speak from the height of our pride and will, or "out of the depths" of a humble and contrite heart? He who humbles himself will be exalted; humility is the foundation of prayer.  Only when we humbly acknowledge that "we do not know how to pray as we ought," are we ready to receive freely the gift of prayer.  "Man is a beggar before God." (CCC 2559)

The Universal Call to Prayer

Man is in search of God.  In the act of creation, God calls every being from nothingness into existence. "Crowned with glory and honor," man is, after the angels, capable of acknowledging "how majestic is the name of the Lord in all the earth."  Even after losing through his sin his likeness to God, man remains an image of his Creator, and retains the desire for the one who calls him into existence.  All religions bear witness to men's essential search for God. (CCC 2566)

Prayer is and has always been an essential part of the blessings which have been bestowed on St. John the Baptist Church.  St. John's offers a Prayer Network Ministry.  This is a phone network of parishioners who pray for any situation whether it be of thanksgiving or serious need.

In addition to our Prayer Network Ministry, a new Email Prayer Network Ministry has been added.  These network members are notified by email to pray for prayer requests whether of thanksgiving or serious need.

If you would like to be a part of this spiritual devotion, please contact the parish office at 625-3131.

Marian Prayer Group

Come join us Thursdays 7pm in the Adoration Chapel as we pray using the format recommended by Our Blessed Mother at Medjugorje. We pray especially for priests.

Our Lady of Guadalupe Image

Also known as Our Lady of the Americas is a replica of the image on Juan Diego's cloak, dating from 1531. Our Lady has provided for us a self-portrait as a way for us to remember her care and concern for us. Her words ring eternally true for today, as yesterday and tomorrow. The image of Our Queen of Heaven and Protector of the Unborn, is available for members of our parish and community at large as a gentle reminder of Our Mother's tender love for us.

Further information about the image is provided in a take-home kit along with a video about Guadalupe for the children.

Legion of Mary

The Legion of Mary's mission is to strengthen the body of Christ in the Church by prayers, works and evangelization. Interested? Come to a meeting and listen to field reports from other members.

Meetings are Mondays 6pm at Cedar Haven or Wednesdays 9am in the Marian Room St. John's Parish offices.
