Social Justice Ministry at St. John's
Respect for Life
Respect for Life is a group of parishioners who support life from preborn to death. Issues such as capital punishment, euthanasia, stem cell research, the ill, and the disabled are our focus. We meet with the directors of other Catholic parishes and do joint projects such as flags synmbolizing the lost preborn. Join us in studying "the most important moral issues of our times" - John Paul II, Apostle of Life.
Social Justice
Anchored in prayer, the Social Justice Ministry works to integrate the social mission of the church in all aspects of parish life. Our committee is involved in assessing, strengthening, and broadening the work of charity and justice in our parish. Meetings are the first Tuesday of the months: October, December, February and April. Meeting time includes prayer, study and planning for participating in various justice activites in our parish and community.
Food for Friends
Food for Friends is a group that meets on a Saturday 4 times a year to prepare, serve and clean-up a meal for about 70 guests in need. This is a day that the Salvation Army does not serve meals. Join the Food for Friends group from 10:30am to about 1:00pm on the days they serve. Youth, adults and families are welcome.
Adult Service Days - Saturday, Oct. 20 and Saturday, April 12
make a difference this fall and spring by volunteering with our St. John's Service group. We'll begin in prayer, end with Mass, and work for parishioners or a community service group to make a difference in peoples' lives. Yardwork, construction, painting, chores around the house - whatever is needed we will do. Call the parish office to sign up and get details.
New Focus
Help people in crisis focus on the positive and good in their lives. Never underestimate the effect your enthusasm can have on others. New Focus teaches people in financial difficulty the practical budgeting and stewardship principles they can use to help solve their problems and turn their crisis into an opportunity to grow in a relationship with Christ. We need financial coaches, discussion group facilitators and hospitality volunteers to bake treats.
